I joined SL last month and have been using it fine with no problems ...other than lag. I was on most of the day and about 4 hours ago i was logged out and received the following error:
The viewer has detected a mangled network data indicative of a bad upstream network connection or an imcomplete local installation of SL.

It goes on to tell me to try and re install and then contact SL
I sent SL an email they sent me auto reply back saying look at forums and wait..lol. I looked a forums and quite frankly am more afraid now then when I first got the error..lol. I called my ISP of course they say all works well I am able to surf the net with no problems and can even long onto "there" (am i allowed to say that.:) without a hitch.

I uninstalled and reinstalled SL..I cleaned my temp net files..Defraged and unplugged my cable modem and replugged it and Still I am logged out the min I sign on..

I have Cable Mode, I do not have a router, firewall nor am I running Nortons.
I would like some assistance from anyone willing my on wish is that you speak in plain English and not computer language that will go over my head. :) lol
Ty in advance

i had this problem a few weeks ago. i had a friend of mine log in as me & then tp me somewhere else & log out. my account was set up to start at last location, so every time i tried to get in, i was stuck in a loop from hell that wouldn't let me out. after my friend tp'd me to a different location i got in no problem. i quickly went into preferences & changed my settings to start from my home location instead of last place visited & haven't had a problem since. it seems to be a snafu in the particular sim that i was in.

Happened to me a few times. If you login in and get this, before login hit preference and set location to home. Then just stay away from the area for a bit, as I have had this error then returned same day, get error, returned a few days later, no error.

I seem to remember that the mangled network data error can be caused by a corrupted cache on your HD.

Wipe out the contents of :

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLife\cache

and then restart SL.

Another thing to check with Mangled Network data is a severly fragmented hard drive. Also, don't forget the Temp folder at c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings it's usually filled with worthless badness that can clog your hard drive.

Oh, didn't I mention? Her problem was solved with my link. She was thanking me in world seconds after I posted.

Seriously, there's something screwy about certain locations sometimes. We need a clear cache button on the login screen.
