Do you know any place (probably slurl) that has a lot of geometry? I understand that popular sites in SL are sorted by their traffic. I have visited some of them and it looks like there are many people and many textures, but it does not necessarily have many polygons to render.
I am looking for the sites which have a lot of geometry (# of polygons) in them. Please answer me if you know some.
Another questions that I have are: How the user-created contents is generally being rendered. Are they using vertex buffer object? Are they rendered using vertex arrays? Do they use glBegin(TRIANGLE_STRIPS)?
Please let me know if you have any idea or any pointer to this.
Any answers about these will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The SL client is open source, and you can read all about it here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_PortalIf your questions aren't answered already, that's the best place to get answers regarding the inner workings.

Wasn't there a first look performance-testing island a while back with all kinds of funky, hard to draw prims on it? Maybe that's still around?

Cetus gallery district. A lot of polygones on a small surface. Let it rezz then stand in the middle and swirl that will check your graphics card.

Go into Client options and turn on Wireframe. You'll see all the polygons, and you can decide for yourself whether there are a lot or not. (There are
