Hi,

Well, today seams to be a horrible day for crashes...again! Yesterday it was a bit better, but right now I don´t think it´s any idea for me to log again.

I have done all the upgrades on my PC (graphic and such) but I crash and crash!

If anyone PLEASE could help me I would be most grateful!!!

Thank
Juliah

Tried turning off various options, shiny objects, bumpmaps etc?
Shiny has been a big cause of crashes in the past,
Other than that some more details on your system and driver versions may give us something to go off....

Hi Juliah,

While I won't try to say that you need to upgrade, it's pretty likely that you should. An Athlon 1600+ is a pretty low start, if I'm to be brutal, and though it will work with 640MB, you really need 1GB to use SL.

However, all that considered, I'd look first at the graphics card. I started SL with a GeForce MX back in 2003... and by 2004 had to upgrade to a 4Ti-4600 ... so I think this is the cause of your problem... Is it PCI or AGP? If AGP, you can get a 6600 for about €100 or less, and would be well worth the expense. Then the RAM...

Of course, if you're even slightly thinking about replacing the CPU/Motherboard, make sure you buy components that will fit. One thing I do know is there's plenty of experience on these forums should you want to start replacing bits and are unsure how to go about it.

Hi and thanks again :)

Well, I was thinking about buying a new graphic card, but maybe that not is enough.
Guess the time has come to buy a new PC..ugh :(

I would suggest ram first.
If you have all the bling disabled (shiny, etc) then the graphic card could handle a bit better then what you describe.
Win XP alone on that amount of ram can cause lag just in day to day PC operations.
I would get the ram.. then later a graphics card. I run a Nvidia 7800 GT with 256 memory on the card and I still get lag from time to time and crashes.

All in all SL runs pretty good for me.. as long as I stay away from vendor heavy sims or ones with all the scripts running useless stuff. :D

Maybe RAM and GFX together if the funds are available. I'm not sure if a 7800GT would come in AGP form though, and certainly not PCI ... and even if it is available, it's probably overkill on a 1.4GHz CPU

Thanks so much :)

I will go for RAM, and that is not so expensive :)
And...a new grapic card! :)

I hope this will help so I can upgrade SL again...sigh...I almost gave up here. No other games I have been in has caused me so much tech. problems.
