CARD: nVidia GeForce 6200 (AGP)
MEMORY: 128 Mb

Hi, would this gfx card support Second Life? I don't want to buy it and find that if I'd spent 10 quid more it would have worked.

Cheers,
Josh.

The 6200 is a rather weak card. I think it will run SL, but you will most likely have to turn down all settings to minimum. Don't expect alot from this card. If your budget can stand it, go for at least a 6600 or 7600 if you can find AGP versions.

Yeah, the 6200 as a separate card is near the minimum requirements end (reviewers put it near the 5700 performance wise) which is acceptable but for just a little more you can get a 6600 gt that is a lightyears better card. The integrated 6200 with the shared memory setup is not even good to use as a fishing weight in my opinion.

In this thread, I reviewed my new 7600GS AGP card, which cost $110 here in the US (alas, probably more on your side of the pond). If your budget will stretch that far, I think that's a good way to go -- way better than the 6200.

don't save on graphics card. I recommend you to get this one:

You will definetly be more satisfied with it. Imagine when you go to "Bad girls" with 6200 you easily manage to count seconds between every frame you see. With 7600gs you will be fine.

I personally buy graphic card every 2 years and invest like 150-180 euro (100-120 pounds, or 170-200 usd) which gives me power to run any game on market without any disadvantages.

Though you should invest in a slightly better card because they are not expenisve such as the 7600 suggested here your card will work JUST FINE. A 5600 would work just fine here the specs are overblown. Yes you may have to turn some options down but the card will run SL.

You don't need even close to the latest and greatest to run a single game published at this time it just helps. In the case of SL doesn't matter what card you run with the way the game is performing.

I would suggest one with 256m memory though.

You might also want to invest in some additional RAM if you can afford it - the one-two punch of a decent video card and an extra 512 - 1G of ram will help your SL experience a lot.

i run great with a 6600 and a 6600 GT, the 6200 is just a slow card MHZ wise (like the 5200 and the mx420 ect, avoid the low end numbers in a series, get atleast half or above)

ive found that ram is much more important than video power, if you do both it will be great, but going from 512 to 1.5gb of ram seemed like a bigger boost

For those who don't know, there is a big difference between an inexpensive video card and a high-end video card. In second life, you can upgrade from an NVIDIA 5600 to an NVIDIA 7900 GT and not see a whole lot of difference just using the preferences menu in the game. You pay your money for the high-end video card so that you can use the control panel for the card to turn up things like Anisotropic Filtering and Anti-Aliasing without losing significant frame rate.

If you paid $450 for a video card and you are not turning up AA and AF settings in your control panel you are wasting $400 essentially because a $50 card would look about the same. Getting 50 frames per second in a crowded sim with absolutely no "jaggies" is what you're paying for.

OR- just save up & build a new system with PCI-E since the GeForce 8800 is now out, for a measly price of $500 on Newegg. :D

Could they make that thing a bit bigger please. While they are at it, throw in a fusion reactor to power it. :D
