Okay, I just installed Second Life on my computer, and it is saying that I need the most current video card driver installed. The one currently on my computer is listed as NVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro. Can anyone tell me the specific driver I need, or how I go about updating the one I have. I have gone to the Nvidia site, but there are some many drivers, and I don't know which one will work. Thanks for any help!

Go here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

In the first box, select graphics drivers
In the second box, scroll down and select TNT and TNT2
In the 3rd box, select your operating system, then click the Go button

Or, assuming you are running Windows XP, use this link to download the ones you need: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/78.01/78.01_winxp2k_english_whql.exe

Okay, it didn't work, it said it didn't find any compatible files on my computer. So maybe I have the wrong graphic driver that is currently on my computer. I looked under my device manager and listed what was under display drivers. Where should I look to see what graphics drivers are on my computer? If I don't have a driver installed that is compatible with SL, is there somewhere I can dowload one for free or cheap? Thanks again for any help.

Okay I tried to download the driver from the links you gave me, but it didn't work. It said it couldn't find any compatible software on my computer. When I look up my graphics driver info this is what is on my computer.

Device

Nvidia Riva TNT2/TNT2 Pro
Chip Type: Riva TNT2/TNT2 Pro
Integrated RAMDAC

Driver

nv4_disp.dll
version 614.0010.5673

If anyone can offer any further help, I would be grateful.

What graphics drivers you currently have do not matter at all, you are installing drivers, so even if you had no drivers at all the drivers off the website should install. The only reason I can think of that might cause that would be if you're mistaken about your graphics card type. Are you 100 percent sure about the exact make and model that your graphics card is? The device manager is reflecting what drivers you have installed currently. Perhaps right clicking and removing the current driver set, then rebooting and letting the OS re-discover your card might tell you the proper make/model you have, then you can retrieve the proper drivers... (although, I thought NVidia's driver installation autodetected the card and installed the proper driver). Either way, I'd remove the old drivers and start from scratch. One warning though, completely removing the drivers will (after the reboot) cause the system to default to standard VGA (640x480x16 colors). Your video card will still work, it'll just have really low graphics. I'd suggest giving that a try.

I am running Windows XP I went to the start menu, pressed run and typed in dxdiag. I looked up the driver and device there. Is there somewhere else I should look? If I want to delete my current drivers, where do I go to delete them, and how do I make sure I am deleting the right thing? Also can I then just visit the Nvidia site and dowload any driver I want? I am afraid that if I uninstall my current drivers, and then Nvidia won't download onto my computer, I will be left with low graphics. Sorry for all the questions, but I am bad at all the tech stuff.

Second Life may not run on graphics/video cards other than the ones listed above. Unfortunately, if your graphics card includes any of the following words, it's NOT compatible with Second Life:

nVidia cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2

Newest driver
Version: 78.01
Release Date: September 2, 2005
WHQL Certified

So its to old really, if you get it to work it wont be very pretty, highly laggy -.- and very unstable/crashy

Try going to :

http://www.driverzone.com/

Do a scan........located on the left under the "Driver" box. The scan is free but you have to pay for the drivers the scan finds. But the results will tell you which driver and the version you need for your card. You can then go to nVidia and find the driver to upgrade to.

Good luck

You might find, go into the client preferences before you login, and under the graphics tab, uncheck the 'detect hardware on startup'.
