I couldn't figure out where else to put this...and this area made the most sense...I am trying to capture some video of my second life experience...and everything I try comes up either unable to play or is all static... What should I be looking for in my settings and all that? Help me please...

Do a googlesearch for a program called Fraps, it has a free version that works quite well recording SL. In fact the Lindens recommend it over their own solution.

However, the best way to make SL movies is to record via a second computer or by using a separate DVD recorder (or even a HD recorder like a Tivo).
With the DVD solution, just plut the computer video-out (S-video/composite/or component), hit record on the DVD recorder, and then work your camera magic in SL. Then, you can dub the DVD back into SL for editing, compressing, and transfer to the net where others may view it.
For the second computer option, you would need a video capture card such as an ATI All-In-Wonder. Play SL on computer #1, record the video-out onto computer #2.

Using video to create mirror.

There is no internal operation to capture video like you would with snapshots? I wanted to create an object with a video screen on it and a camera placed in the middle and stream the video onto the screen creating a mirror. Does anyone else have any ideas as to how to create mirrored textures?

Does anyone else have any ideas as to how to create mirrored textures? There is built-in video capturing in the SL client, but most people who have tried it prefer thrid-party programs for machinima making. Do you mean "mirror", as in "reflective surface" and you want to use video to simulate it? I have no idea how that would work. I also don't think you can have a camera "object", as the camera is effectivly attached to the avatar/client. You could create a "camera alt" like Video Linden was, but that would basicly mean an alt and a seperate computer for every "mirror" you make. As for non-video solutions, there aren't really any, as SL graphics don't have the capability for true reflective surfaces.

Additionally you may want to look at the Second Life Media page here: http://secondlife.com/media/and go to the Machinima link: http://secondlife.com/machinima/I hear Fraps recommended regularly. One of the foremost experts of SL moviemaking is BuhBuhCuh Fairchild, and he made instructions here: http://alt-zoom.com/forums/index.php?PHPSESSID=6d6dcd591994a0da2bc1b742a4cd500b&topic=22.0

I've done in-game videos of various games using FRAPS and yea, it is good. Another method I used was to output my Monitor to a VCR through one of those USB2.0 Video Devices. Works exceptionally well!! Not a frame dropped!! Then I just switch the 3 RCA plugs to the Out Jacks of the VCR and re-capture it in any format I need. The beauty of using the VCR method- it doesnt require use of your CPU, RAM, & Video. Sure, people will say "But VHS isn't the highest quality!" True, but then yer not showing this on a big screen hi-def TV or Theater Screen either.
