The patch works, Yay, everythign seems.. remarkably aster when I log in, there's barely any lag at all, everything's fantastic! and then My video card fails and my computer Force-restarts due to overheating. What the hell is going on here? did the lindens do anything to the rendering engine?

Well, you actually did get in, but..... I monitored the temp of my graphics card when starting and running SL (some weeks ago where it was actually possible to play!).
When it's shows the login screen, the temp jumped from 65 deg C to 102 deg C !! Danger warning ! But when the game started, it went down to about 75 deg C.
Then it hung for some reason, the temp went up to over 100 again, the power supply overheated and the machine rebooted !
Isn't this fun !

Wow! That makes three of us!
My ATI Radeon 9800 XT started flickering (last week while on SL) and all of the sudden, the pc shut down and it started smelling like something was burning.
I powered the system back on, checked the card's temperature and it was maxxed out at 140 degrees C!
I opened the PC got rid of every particle of dust, plugged it back in after everything cooled down, and it has been operating at 75 degrees C since. Close call.
Muskie, make sure all fans are working and clear. And it may be time to give your pc a dustoff.

Maybe it was just by chance but my previous card literally burnt out after trying to start this, the GPU was brunt like it cought fire and my ATI 9800 also gets dangerously hot.

^^ hehe , i had this one happen every time im in SL, my temp thingie that monitor my 6800gt get stuck or lag on timing or something, it reports whopping 100-150c , if i minimize SL it goes back to 56-59c wich it usually is on, scared me the first times i went O.O whoa,, oh wait, it did another temp reading and it dropped down to normal, doh, Smartdoc temperature reading thing doesnt seem to like SL to much since it uses so much cpu. but i did manage to blow my psu today ;_; twice.... cough

Muskie I was just going to post on this issue, when I saw this. I have had no problems (clientside) with SL until the update. My PC restarted 5 times in a matter of 4 hours. My PC is clean and my fans are clear. I messaged a Linden and was asked my system specs (AMD2800, ATI 9800 SP2 and current ATI drivers) I was then asked what my PSU was (420w). I was told that it *might* be my PSU, but I dont know how... its been working just fine and I dont have issues with other more graphicaly demanding applications. Do I need to beef up my PSU?

From: Thili Playfair but i did manage to blow my psu today ;_; twice.... cough Now isn't that a coincidence ? I had a 560 W powers supply go dead on me some week ago, it happened about a minute after SL froze up. I was not sure if SL was locked or just a bit tired, so I left it hanging, then suddenly - pffft, all went silent. I hate when that happens. Luckily, I had an old 350W supply I could use instead, just didn't dare to start SL ! lol

Will an ATI IGP 340M work?
05-17-2005 10:10
I am new to SL and it crashes when it tries to load. Downloaded all updates and have 500M memory on my Fujitsu Series C Lifebook. Should I try tweaking the Bios and device drivers or would this be futile? The only other system I have has an All-in-Wonder 128 Pro with 32m of memory.
Thanks for any info

My computer pulled out of Windows last night "to prevent damage" after I went to bed. I woke up to a blue-screen message suggesting I reassess any new hardware or software. I immediately suspected SL, 1.6.5 being the only thing I dled yesterday. It wasn't the last program I used, but I was in and out several times last night. Nothing was running when the machine pulled out of Windows. I figured I'd check this forum for a thread just like this one, and whaddya know... PS--it's the first time I ever got that stop error
