Too many to choose from! What do people reckon is a decent quality, SL compatible graphics card that would cost sort of....150 quid (USD 270) max. (System is Ath 2400 XP, 512MB). It doesn't need to be the the most powerful card in the world, but it would be quite nice to be able to see the ripply water, shiny surfaces and avis in high res without getting 1 fps!

In Uk right? Wich kind of vid card, agp/pci-e? Typically nvidia6600 , 6800 , 7800 , 7900 , for now recommened 256mb vid ram, would suit SL just fine. 6600 is about £60-80'ish check this page > www.komplett.co.ukagppci-eYou should considers getting 1024 ram since 512 will make it quite slow harddrive grind.

The 6600GT if you need it real cheap. But the 7600GT is much faster and has more features and 2x the memory for not a lot more money. Id avoid the 7800 series because the 7900 series is better in terms of speed and cost/performance ratio. 7900GT is more then you were wanting to spend but would be the next step up. (its as fast as a 7800 GTX at lower cost) And you may be limited by if you have pcie slot of not. good luck ps, the above poster is right, 1GB will help alot too.

AGP your best bet is a 6800 or 7600 or 7800 Nvidia. I shop from www.overclockers.co.uk and their pricing is very keen, often about the cheapest especially on their this week only.
