I just downloaded the latest version of SL and try to open it, but I get an error message stating that the file, and/or data is corrupt, due to a failed download or virus. It gave me an option to use the "/NCRC" command line function, but didn't recommend it. I tried it and during the file decompression, it gave me another error stating, once again, that the data was corrupt. Any ideas/hints/tips?

I've used the automatic one from running the SL program about three to five times, and I've tried the main site about as many times. I'm using the windows version, so yes, I've used one of the links you've given.

Have you uninstalled it, not just installed it over top of the existing installation?
Doing a forum search for nsis yields this: "Clear you IE cache...go to Tools, Internet Options, and delete all old files then try again." I would add delete the old install file before clearing the browser cache. Then try again. One might want to check for virus's, and make sure you don't have any trouble from a firewall or antivirus program messing with the download. Those browser cache clearing instructions appear to assume the use of IE. Clear the cache in whatever browser you are using is what it should say, I think. _____________________

None of this is working. You'd think it would be the fault of LL if the error was stating that the data is corrupted or incomplete. But I'll keep trying different ideas, see if it helps.

someone else had this on forum awhile ago, they had to have someone send it to them then it worked, downloading from SL webpage broke every time -.-
Things i can think of why this happen is isp hiccups, virus/firewall progs, something between SL download and you is messing up, only time i seen this was cause of cache temp in windows had a temp file with identical name remenant of a old install i guess. Know someone who can send you it?, might as well try, zip/rar/ace it incase something is tripping on the .exe name. |

If you have a router, this is a longshot idea, but something I experienced about 6 weeks ago:
Turn off UPnP on your routers and in WinXP. Something with UPnP was screwing up about 5-10% of my downloads, corrupting them. I found a single forum entry on a torrent website talking about UPnP causing corrupt downloads, so I tried it, and all my corrupt file problems went away. Like I said, a longshot. _____________________

There is a copy available via the Shareaza file sharing system, it is "Second Life 1-11-1-1 Setup.exe", 24.5 MB, 25,694,056 bytes, 25,694,208 bytes on disk".

I'd rather not mess with my router settings, even if I knew how to. There are other people who use it, so if I screw something up, that means everyone goes without. Explaining that I was trying to get SL working won't be a good excuse. Thili, I'll try your suggestion, thanks. |

One more suggestion, have a nearby friend or neighbor download it and burn it to CD. Make it someone who isn't on the same connection as you are.

Problem Solved
07-30-2006 17:11
I don't know what the heck happened. I just decided to start up the SL client and re-try the download from there, and it actually installed. I didn't even have to mess with anything. o..O
EDIT: Okay, after SL started working I was overjoyed. Then it crashed on me. I thought it was normal because it happens alot, so I try a relog. Ten seconds in, I crash again. Relog, crash. Relog, crash. Etc. What, does God hate me or something? |
