Simulator Object Usage limits - arbitrary or is there underlying reasoning?

I searched this in the forums but didn't see anything; is there any actual logic or math that defines the limit to the number of objects allowed on a parcel of land?

at first I thought it was dependant upon land size, cos when I had the basic 512 I had about 180 or so for my limit, then when I moved up to the plot I've got now, (which is 1408 or so) it went up to 322. then today, flying around my "neighborhood" I came across some land for sale. the size of the land was 1120, smaller than mine, but the object count was 1168 total. wtf?

are there logistics to the amount in question or not? if it's totally random then hell, I want my count increased since I'm paying a higher land tier than this guy and can only build a fraction of the objects.

AFAIK

512m2 = 117 prims -- unless one is in a city sim where you get double prim allocations.

Also, consider that you can "join" plots in the same sim if you own non-contiguous plots. By doing so, you "combine" the prim allocations for both plots and these can be used on either plot. This is not obvious to most people when looking at "about land".

Of course, you may be correct and and there might be a difference in prim allocations depending on sim... but I don't think so.

except then what's the logic behind why, despite having higher land overall I have nearly 1000 less object-quota than the guy near me, even though his land is 300 or so meters smaller?

Are you looking at objects available or objects parcel supports?

Chances are the owner of the parcel you were looking at owns more land in the same sim which will add to the object total.

Objects parcel supports will show the number of objects that particular parcel will support.

it looked to me like it was for that particular parcel.

Joshua,

If you fly by an empty 512 sqm piece of land showing 234 (117x2) objects available, chances are that the owner has another 512 sqm property somewhere else in the sim.

Parcels do not have to be together to share objects, just on the same sim.

Makes sense?

I guess so, the limits still seem bizarrely small though. on 512 I could barely construct anything. my plot now is a little better but I still can't devise the buildings I'd like and I don't think it fair to have to go up another tier for better results... oh well.

15000 prims in a sim.
65535m2 land in a sim.

Prims per m = 15000/65535

Very simple formula.

So if you own 512m, it works like this: (1/512) * (15000/65535) = 117.

Believe me, I *never* think there are enough prims. Heh. Why do you think I build in the sandbox, for the ambience? heheh.
