OK
The rules are such...

If you own a BASIC account, you may NOT own land. There is a $8 tier for 1024m above base, but you need to be a Premium member first.

If you own a PREMIUM account, you have to pay nothing for the first 512m. However, for 1024, you'll need a 512m tier which is $5 on top of the base price.

The base price for Premium depends on the term. If you pay monthly, I think it's $9.95 (the website will tell you...) whereas if you pay annually, it's about $6 per month...

These are basically land taxes... you need to actually buy your plot of land seperately.

I suggest working with Lisse Livingston or Schwanson in-world. There are others, but they're the best at what they do, without having business models that hurt SL at large like some others.

Good Luck.

Nich, this is the best LL summary page I've found so far for Membership Plans and Land Fees. Pity about the 1-mile long URL, maybe someone can shorten it for us without using an external URL shorting service.

The thing to bear in mind which always confuses newcomers is that the land tax you pay depends on your tier, and within any given tier you can have up to 512 m^2 more than your tier allocation provides without bumping you up to the next tier. (Because of that free 512 m^2 thing.)

So, if for example you choose to be on 2048 m^2 tier (ie. pay US$15/month land tax), then you should buy 2048+512 = 2560 m^2 of land in order to own all that you are entiitled to and are paying for.

In the example, you wouldn't have to buy all 2560 in one lump if you didn't want to. As long as the pieces add up to no more than 2560 m^2, you'll still be on 2048 tier. And as long as all the pieces are on the same sim, you can aggregate all the prim allocations from all the pieces as well, and use all the prims on just one plot if you wish.
