I've tried everything, and I can't see any particles =( I think it might be my 8800gts, but it doesn't seem like anyone else is having the same problem so I guess it's just me. Would greatly appreciate any help, or which video drivers will work for it, if any.

Have you check preferences setting for particles.. sometimes the updates resets some preferences... also look in the Client Menu.. Rendering and make sure Particles are checked.

Can't get inworld while they update, but Particles are turned on and off in (I think) the VIEW menu...about 2/3 down, a submenu shows "Turn Particles Off". I"d look there first. Although with that description it may take a while to find it!

A restart of my system clears it up for a while. I have just installed the new Nvidia drivers (released 4/17 I think) but haven't got adequate time to test and see if the issue is resolved.

The basic on/off function is in view menu, there is also the ability to turn them off/on in the Client menu, and you can adjust the amount of particles you see in Preferences... although turning this up too much will lagg you horribly.

I'm having this problem as well and I know a couple people in-world that are also having the problem. All our settings are fine, so far as accidentally not noticing we've turned down particle limit or hidden particles by mistake. An example is a poofy cloud I use. It appears to only be tossing out one or two particles every second instead of two or three every quarter second. This makes a huge difference on appearance and is a giant annoyance for anyone who works or uses particles.

Even more reason SL need debug setting to stick on/off after you change them or make it a option to disable the crap you dont want and have it stay off : p
Some i use to change UISndTyping UISndObjectCreate RenderGlow <- that one seriously need a option toggle, since it b0rks when you resize window and disable/enable to fix it
RenderGlowSize RenderDynamicReflections AFKTimeout AllowAFK Clouds/off

From: Meade Paravane See VWR-418. There's a particle leak in the viewer. A relog will help for a while. Ah, so the solution is log in again or, according to that link, downgrade to a previous version of SL. Oh well. I don't feel like downgrading so I'll just wait it out.
