A video card conundrum

First, the obligatory system specs:

Cpu:Intel 3.2ghz with HT
Ram: 1 Gig, single channel ram
Gfx:Geforce FX 5500 PCI, 256 meg vram <-- This is oldschool pci. Not pci express.
Hard disk: 120 gig, recently defragmented. 20 gig free atm.

And now, the question, with backstory:

The PCI card was purchased as a crutch for a Dell machine, because I was an idiot and didnt look inside the machine before ordering the card. No agp slot. Grr.

So i have a somewhat older, ATI Radeon 9200 with half the vram laying around gathering dust. My question is, what would give me a better performance boost? Losing the PCI card, but taking a vram hit, or keeping the PCI card and my truckload-o-vram?

Apologies in advance if this seems like an obvious question, but my experience with 3d acceleration is minimal.

Doubt it will be much of a diffrence in speed, but in compitablity with SL > Gforce, so thats what id use if where you.

But hey cant hurt to try other card if its laying around.
