I am currently running: DELL XPS Gen 5 2GB Ram 2.6GHz Pentium Dual Core CPU nVidia 6800 PCI-E 256MB
Secondlife only really runs at 15fps in areas with alot of textures. I don't have many of the cooler features even on. At one point about 2 weeks ago i updated to the newest drivers and the fps dropped even lower. These are not heavily populated sims when i am testing the fps. Is there anything i can do or could possibly be doing wrong that my power system is running so slow?

what resolution? If your doing 800x600 you'll actually lose FPS if you don't turn it up as that is a legacy resolution that has to be emulated on modern cards.

From: Thili Playfair 15 fps is normal 'ish for SL and that pc setup, SL been utter slow latly tho, isp/backbone issues apperantly ~.~ Framerate of Secondlife client have nothing to do with isp/backbone. However if alot of objects and textures are being downloaded the CPU+RAM could be bussy. I have a Athlon 64 3200+ 1Gb Ram and a Geforce6800GS 256mb video card and in some places with alot of graphics it can slow down alot. so i have to turn of all the special effects, which i find quite anoying since i have a highend gaming system able to run games like TES4 Oblivion. Is SL just poorly programmed or do i need to tweak the settings for better performance?

I might be wrong but on my Nvidia card setting terrain distance to full really slows things down.

SL fps been declining on all my pc's to last months down down down, turned off options that used to be on, and still fps keep going down hehe Wonder if i should start hunting dust bunnies. Irathian Xevious "SL been utter slow latly tho, isp/backbone issues apperantly ~.~" SL > Server , never said Client and SL is not a game This really need a sticky already, always someone who start my pc run this game so so and SL should to, wrong. (wont bother digging up 100's of threads about it ) Your pc is hardly what id call High end game pc, o.o; sorry, im spoiled on pc parts For most part SL chugs along the lines of 10-25fps sure you can get lower higher depending on textures/avatars in sim.

Keep in mind that Second Life is a streaming enviroment, meaning it is dynamically rendered. Which is a huge strain on your graphics card.
A normal game has prerendered scenes, which don't need many calculation compared to Second Life.
