I really want to join second life, but I don't think my graphics card is up-to-date enough. Does anyone know if I can just download a new driver for it, or if I have to buy a new card, where I can get a cheap one?

My graphics card is:
32MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra

I would try updating drivers first at ATI.COM and if that doesn't work then a new video card is in order. Good Luck!

You can also view system requirements to run SL here http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php

Actually it does say that SL will not support ATI cards with Rage so you may want to go ahead and buy a new video card that will support SL.

Rage graphics cards are not supported by SecondLife, due to the fact they are 6+ years old.

Eh. I paid a little less than $50 bucks for this computer, so the fact that the graphics card ain't that great isn't surprising. I'll check out on downloading the drivers, but I have a feeling I tried that once before.

If all else fails, I suppose I can save money to buy a new graphics card and install it myself. *shrug* Or, I could scavenge from one of my other computers...hrm...

This is actually a new question, but since it's related to the previous question, I decided to just use this thread.

Anyway, is there a way to physically tell what graphics card you have? In my previous post, I mentioned scavenging a graphics card from one of my other computers. The reason why I don't just play second life on that one is because none of the keyboards I own match its connector port and it won't start without that vital attachment.

At the moment, I have the computer sitting open on my kitchen table and I can provide serial numbers from the card if that'll help at all.

EDIT: I have more information about this mysterious other card. When I inspected it, I found it had S3 Virge and Cardex VGA on it. Nothing else stood out though. I could switch that card to this computer to find out what it is exactly, but I don't want to fry this computer in the process if it turns out to be incompatible.
