in your inventory when you right click an object it has an option for "copy" and one for "copy object UUID" (i think that's right but i can't check right now). what's "copy object UUID" mean? i tried it but it just seemed to copy and past the object like normal.

The UUID is a universally unique identifier, a string like 27612376-91827-98127-18288 that identifies an object, a notecard, a sound clip, a texture, etc. in Second Life. No two objects have the same UUID.

Within the context of your inventory, there's not much difference between an object and its UUID; your inventory is basically just a collection of UUIDs. So copying and pasting a UUID within your inventory is the same as copying and pasting an object. However, you can paste a UUID into text files, including scripts. A UUID lets a script refer to a specific object unambiguously, whereas an ordinary name (like "Object" or "gun";) might refer to any number of things.

So are there new UUID's for every .5m plywood cube rezzed and do they recycle old numbers or something after objects are deleted?

The number of possible UUIDs is big, I mean really big. As the article notes: 1 trillion UUIDs have to be created every nanosecond for 10 billion years to exhaust the number of UUIDs.
