This has been going on for a few versions now, but really started to get bad the update after the new hardware lighting system came into effect 1.10.something. Anyways, if full bright is enabled on an object, its colors and lighting, and shadowing begin to flicker in a really annoying way.

If full bright is disabled, there is no flickering and colors remain consistent:

Normal.

But if full bright is enabled on this object:

The yellowish coloring dances around along with black lines along the length of the entire object. It's really hard to look at for any length of time :/

I've done everything i can think of to fix this, i'm running the almost latest nvidia drivers (the new 90~ series drivers are reported to cause major lag, so i'm averse to updating that far)

this is a PCI Geforce FX 5500, 256 vram, 3.4ghz, 1gig system ram, windows XP.

Any ideas?

Series 9 nVidia Drivers

Hi,

Thanks for your posting. I've been trying to fix an identical problem. After the most recent release I found various lighting effects were driving me crazy with flicker. I run an ASUS 7900GT video card. I was running nVidia 84.21 version drivers. I upgraded to 91.31, with the new control panel and at first was relieved to find the lighting problem fixed (and also, a remarkable improvement in graphic quality.) After a little while I began to suspect performance wasn't all it should be though.

I turned on the FPS meter and was surprised to see 10FPS where I'd normally see 25. I rolled back the driver and the FPS went straight back to 25!

I have switched back and forward between the two drivers to confirm the symptoms and confirm all the settings that I have control over are configured similarly.

I'm now stuck the same way you are. Unplayable lighting or unplayable performance?
