*deep breath*
I am playing SL on a Toshiba Satellite A75-S211 which I have upgraded the Ram to 1.25 gigs and have never gotten very good frame rates. It runs an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP ... and I haven't located a third party driver which works better than what came in the machine :( (so first off if you know of one, that would be a big help)

Up until the recent "attack" I was running about 7.5 FPS which fell to about 1.5 fps after the "attack". Leaving me thinking that LL would get this straighten up shortly, as time went by I decided it must be my ISP, but today quite by accident I mad an appalling discovery.

I had created a box and was inside the box and moved with my camera outside the box and my fps shot higher than I have ever seen it before as high as 30 fps... taking away my thoughts of it being my ISP's fault. As soon as I got back inside the box with my camera view the frame rates fell back to piss poor.

This put my poor southern country boy mind in a quandary, why is this.... as I still don't have the tech skills to figure this out; I thought I would bring it to you guys and see if someone could help me figure out just what I can do to help myself.

I gathered as much data as I knew how and will present it here. here are my settings in preferences. disk cache size 500MB, have bandwidth set at 760, trying to render Avatar at normal (cause I like how good looking the women are in SL) Terrain Detail at none.... Graphic card memory at 128MB(recommended) object detail, Tree detail, and avatar detail at default... avatar vertex program checked show av in mouse look unchecked... draw distance at 64 meters, fog distance ratio at 1.4, drop draw distance if FPS < 4 ... Bumpiness Draw Distance: 4 ... Max particle count 256... outfit composite limit 2

The following is data I took from the statistic bar

The first column is camera outside the box no AV's visible (fps 12.5 to 30)
the second is camera inside the box with my Av
Third is camera outside the box with a single AV close and I think one outside my draw distance

Does any of this make any sense? Any Idea what I might be able to do to be able to enjoy the game, because I assure you .5 fps to 4 fps and the game is not enjoyable.

Hi!
I'm not very techy at all, I know the Omega Drivers are a favorite with SL users a lot of the time, worth giving them a shot.

Have you tried unchecking the avatar vertex program? Any improvement? My best idea would be to turn EVERYTHING down to minimum, check your performance, and one by one turning things on while noting what effects they have on your FPS.

I highly recommend Omega Drivers for ATI-based graphics, especially if you can't get up to date drivers through any other means (mostly a problem for laptops). It is essential that you run the most current drivers possible and Omega stays up to date.

Thanks guys, I had been to Omega drivers before...like about 3/27 the day before he released the latest version of the ATI driver... I am not at home at the machine at the moment so I really don't know if this new driver will help me or not, but appreciate your making me go back to Omega and looking again.
