Hi, I am new to the second life experience, and have been having serious issues with the program even starting at all it seems. I have been searching the forums for help and have tried many different things.

Reinstalled several times 10<
Updated and rolled back my video drivers
tried setting diff ports currently at 13001

What am I doing so wrong? My Girlfriend installed the game and was online within minutes, and I usually have no problems whatsoever with these kinds of things(And as far as system specs goes, she has nowhere near the raw power that my machine has muhahahah). As a tech for pcs i know that sometimes simple things are overlooked and am hoping that this is one of those times. My system specs are as follows.

Windows 2k Pro SP4
80 gig western dig 36 free
120 gig western dig 15.3 free
Radeon 9700 Pro 128
2x512Mb Corsair 333 Dual Chan
2800+ Athlon Xp Barton

As a further note I have swtiched to omega drivers, and have tried doing a windowed mode of the game. Stiill to only be bashed and rejected by yet another attempt.

Where is it crashing? What is the actual error you're seeing?

Where is it crashing? If I knew where it was crashing or why it was crashing I would have mentioned it. Here is a run through for ya, I double click the secondlife icon, detecting hardware comes up and sits there, assuming something is happening i let it sit there for 10 minutes for good measure. Soon after that I get sick of waiting and check my task manager for anything going on.

System Idle Process 99%
Newview.exe 0% with 0:00:00 Cpu time. 17k memory usage.

Now its been past experience that when a program hangs or crashes you will get some kind of error, which I do when I restart the game. However since the crash logger uses the same technology that the client uses itself it of course hangs and does nothing once it is started as well.

Edit your shortcut to read ""C:\Program Files\SecondLife\newview.exe" -noprobe". This will disable the initial hardware probe. Can you log in after that?

If it's crashing there though, you might want to try running dxdiag to see if there's something wrong with your video card.

(For anyone that's wondering where I got that switch from, see here for more command line switches.)
