I'd say your hard drive is going bad. Backup what you can while you can.

But if you harddisk caused the problem, be sure it will cause more problems. I would make a backup of all that has any value to you, just in case. I lost many things that were precious to me because a harddisk error.... I make now backups every week. Morwen.

Open My Computer, Right hand click the Hard drive and select Properties, then the Tools Tab, now click the Diskscan button, it will tell you it will carryout that function next time you restart your PC... before clicking OK, check the Auto Fix Errors and Scan for Bad Sectors... now close tha window and COLD reboot your PC (logout of the OS and turn the PC off) restart the PC after 10 seconds, and let the programme start to scan your hard disc. It will take some time, but let it finish. At the end, it will report and errors, pay particular attention to the Bad Sectors.. if there is more than 0, you may have a Hard Disk failure about to happen. Immediatley you get back into windows, backup everything you want to keep, and go to the local store and buy a new HD. Reinstall everything you need (time for spring cleaning). If you don't have any Bad Sectors, it maybe that the MBR or NTS filing system has become corrupted, running Diskscan will refresh those entries and make the system more stable. It's worth doing this at least once every couple of months, if for no other reason, it can forewarn you of an impending hard disc failure.
