After Catalyst 4.10, SL Won't Recognize 9800xt

Great. Updated to the latest Catalyst Driver 4.10 for my ATi Radeon 9800XT and suddenly SecondLife doesn't recognize the video card and wants to call it generic. It gets worse, since it won't recognize, it won't even load the program anymore.

Well as an Athlon 64 3400+, 1GB RAM, 9800XT w/256MB owner, I can't understand why suddenly SL doesn't recognize the latest ATi drivers and thinks my computer is suddenly not up to the task. What's going on here?

Can you reboot your computer, try again, and if that fails, send the SecondLife.log file to [email]support@lindenlab.com[/email]?

Hmmm... I have 4.9 installed for my 9800XT and it works fine.

Being the adventurous person that I am, I'll install 4.10 when I get home and give you the results.

The only problem I had with 4.9 was that it broke Java. I had to turn lower anti-aliasing to X2.

Anyway, check later and see what happened to my install. Wish me luck

I am running 4.10 with a 9600XT and having no issues at all. As a matter of fact, a little better then before.

Did you competely uninstall the prev drivers? Run the ati remove utility from the add/remove programs? recommended to do this before any new driver.

But for me it is 100% working, and made a program that was not working well work! so very happy with 4.10.

As promised, I installed 4.10. Like you, I have a 9800XT. I experienced no problems.

Try uninstalling all of it and reinstalling.

iv'e had this problem before.. what happens is sometimes the ATI drivers on instillation fail to recognize the hardware... you can fix it manually though

go to the advanced display properties and pick the adapter tab

pick 'update drivers' and point them to update them from a specific location, the location that the ati drivers installed to, its usally c:\ati\LOTS OF NUMBERS\winxp, ya can poke around in there tho

once they do that you should be good to go
