I've tried purging SL completely from the XP Home pc, including removing all instances of "Second Life" from the registry as well. It did not have any effect. SL crashes immediatly after the "Detecting Hardware" notice and before any logon screen appears. The SL crash logging utility has sent a report after each instance but I cannot find this report to see what exactly is being sent. The last time I was able to log into SL was roughly 6 months ago...
My pc: XP Home (up to date patching) 1ghz AMD 512mb ram 13gb free disk 6800 BFG 8x agp 128mb (up to date drivers) cable (3mbit)
I have a basic account, so if I can never log into SL again, it's not a big loss. (A pity however)

I'm sorry it didn't work for you Morphy I've had what you described happen to me at one upgrade as well. Was told by Torley then to go to web site and downloading new sl, as sometimes the automatic sl update as started from your viewer transfers with errors. This is not the case here, but I would try downloading sl one more time from web site anyway and install. You can also try to set the -noprobe flag to your sl shortcut (to prevent it from trying to detect your graphics card). And perhaps -purge flag to have sl clean cache. To do so, right click on the shortcut (located in your sl folder), Properties. See the first line (the Target line)? Replace it with something like: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -purge -noprobe File path may be different on your machine. Once set up, allways start sl with this shortcut (or a shortcut of it on your desktop or wherever). Good luck! P.S.: You said you have purged all instances of "Second Life" from registry. Try secondlife without any spaces. Worked miracles for me! Lis
