I'm not sure how it was caused, and I know SL isn't responsible, yadda yadda.

Anyway, I got on my girlfriend's laptop to play, and when I tried logging in, it froze at Precaching indefinitely. The program crashed, and a crashreport.exe (or something) error came up. I said 'Don't Send'. After that explorer.exe was essentially locked up. No task manager, no start menu, nothing would come up. So I restarted.

I waited for the startup programs to come up, and then I started SL. Once again, it hung on PreCaching, but before it closed, BSoD. (Blue Screen of Death, for you nubs =P)

It wasn't a normal BSoD where it just flashes and restarts. It said 'Dumping Memory'. It was a memory error (duh), and I guess it was cleaning itself out. It stopped, and didn't do anything, so I held the power to do a hard reboot.

POST, cursor, 'Cannot read drive, press CTRL + ALT + DEL to try again'. That's as far as I can get. The BIOS recognizes the drive being there, and Windows' chkdsk says it's in tact.

I'm at a loss of what to do, and really don't want to format/get a new drive/laptop.

sounds like your boot files got garbled, you can stick the os disk in a boot from that to perform a repair, or do it manually ... try google, theres a ton of how to's
