NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System) is the 3rd party installer used by Linden Labs to install Second Life, and updates. There is a common error that occours (20 threads on this forum alone) where the file gets corrupted. As such shouldnt this appear on the Knowledge Base?
Error example:
NSIS ERROR
The Installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of damaged disk, a failed download or a virus
You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.
It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED).
The last line is true, more than often it will not run the programe and result in further errors.
Causes:
Firewalls are the most common cause, even those intergrated with the mother boards (like mine)
Download fault -
To explain this one, I live in New Zealand, and with a high spead connect it did not take that much time. However I started getting this fault, and have this fault every time I try and update or download SL. But if I ask a friend to send me the files, which is much slower, I have no problems. Obviously something is getting lost in the faster transfer.
Possible Solutions:
Turn off the firewall, most software firewalls can be turned off fairly easily, motherboard intergrated firewalls like mine have a option you can click off a system tray icon (bottom right of the screen for most systems).
If your trying to download from the SL from the website, remember to go into: tools, interenet options, and delete the temperary internet files. For Firefox users its: tools, Options... Cache (and even then you might still have to open up IE and delete them that way too)
Delete the temp file you downloaded and try again. For those that cant find the file, they are usually stored in: C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Local Settings\Temp, and will have a second life icon.
Get a friend to send it to you, again they can send you the file in the temp directory (look for the most recent one). If your trying to download from the SL from the website, remember to go into: tools, interenet options, and delete the temperary internet files. For Firefox users its: tools, Options... Cache
So come on LL put something like the above on the knowledge base, this error has been going on since 2003, isnt it about time you added it?
