Okay, my room mate refuses to let me play SL on he router because she said the game is pear to pear. Is this true? Dose SL have a secure server? If not, will SL be geting a secure server in the future? I love the game and want to get back to playing it and keep my room mates minds at ease.

SL is not peer to peer. It's client to server and back to client. And the game is not on what I would call a secure server.......that's like the servers you would use for online banking or shopping. I would hope that LL has security software in place on the game servers though.

But if your roomie is worried about picking up a virus, spy/mal-ware or adware you can tell her that SL is as safe as any website on the internet.........and safer than most.

Pear to pear.. lol, and here I thought it was apples to apples

3 basic network types

1. Client Server (like SL, or the web)

2. Peer to peer (like IM programs, Kazaa, Limewire, Bit Torrent)

3. Master/Slave which is a networking protocol where the master always controls the flow of information. (also refered to as primary/secondary by whiny liberals... )

No paticular system is more or less secure than another, it's what is being transmitted that causes the security issues. Your friend hears "peer to peer" and get's all freaked out about it because peer to peer is more or less exclusively associated with file sharing networks that are filled with spyware, malware, and viruses. SL, with all the problems it does have doesnt (as yet) have a virus issue (as far as I know). So, you can tell your friend she has nothing to worry about as far as SL is concerned. Which, if it matters that much to your friend, uses the client server protocol. (And is in the process of swtiching to another client/server protocol as well).
