Help my nephew please!

Running a white box with an amd 100 2.1 Ghz Dual core, 512MB Nvidia GeForce 5600, 2GB of Ram.
Using Cable internet out of Nevada.

He gets 60-70 FPS (!!!) and his bandwidth is between 150 and 250 as if fluxes.

Yet when he logs on, he's a ruthie for EVER then he is lagged out in places where I am running fairly well with my pitiful old machine. (Although I too am suffering from the 1.9 blues...made it this far from 1.6.6 I think...)

I've helped him with his preferences, had him download latest driver for vid card...no help.

Any suggestions??? Please?

Hmmm... what's his stats bar look like when it's really bad? Ctrl-Shift-1, and simply put, look at Ping times and Packet Loss. Would be a good idea to post a screenshot here.

Did he set core affinity to 1 cpu `?, SL can get awefull jerky if you use both

till SL finally manage to rez and download all the textures around you ,
then it drops like a rock :p
