It would appear the grid has been taken offline. Check the blog for more information if there is any at this time.

yeah there is nothing in the blog yet. Im sure there will be an update shortly.
This is exactly why I left SL a while ago. Every single day it was down. Every single time I wanted to login it was down.
I see not much has changed. Instead of going down every day @ 10am like it used to, now SL just goes down every day at a completely random time.
This is just a reality for Second Life. If you don't want to put up with downtime EVERY SINGLE DAY then this program is not for you. It is extremely irritating.

If there is nothing then wait a bit. Being a weekend Linden response to any issues with the grid will be delayed slightly. Whatever happened was severe enough to disable logins and take the grid offline.
Though checking the main page there are ~7000 residents in world, so there may be an asset server issue. I know on my last login my avatar was not visible, location infromation was not displayed, and my $L ballance was not displayed.
So the best thing to do is wait and check back every 30 minutes to see if there is any news in the blog or here in the forums.

the blog is to be our up to date "info" yet no "info" is there. friends are online yet hmmm i can't seem to log in which is understandable cause grid is offline. well...grid offline, friends online, umm hello and oh yes the good old "no info for anyone"

There were reports of grey-goo type objects in-world. We are currently investigating. As such, we have temporarily moved to a Lindens-only login. Thank you for your patience while we handle this issue. I will be sure to report back as soon as I have further information.
