"Could not teleport closer to destination"

For about two days now, I'm completely unable to teleport WITHIN most regions. I can teleport from one region to another -- when I do, it takes me to the "landing point" for the destination region -- but then I'm stuck getting anywhere else by walking or flying.

* If I try to use a Landmark within a region that has "Landing Point" selected for "Teleport Routing", it just takes me back to the Landing Point again, which as I understand it is NOT the expected behavior.

* If I try to use the Map to teleport, I get the following message in a box in the middle of the screen: "Could not teleport. Could not teleport closer to destination" -- and then I end up right where I was before trying to teleport, same camera view and everything.

* The ONLY time I seem to be able to use coordinate-specific Landmarks or use the Map to transport is when I'm in a region that shows "Teleport Routing: Anywhere" in the "About Land..." options. Which seems to be a minority of regions.

When I first signed up for SL last week, I didn't have these problems. I contacted the owner of one of the regions I frequent, and they assured me that nothing's changed on their end. This is happening in both Mac AND Windows with no difference in behavior.

Not being able to use specific "bookmarks" is extremely frustrating; does anyone have any suggestions?!

When Teleporting Routing is setted only to landing point that's where you should be expected to TP. Even if you are inside the sim and TP again, maybe there are many land subdivisions and each has his own TP routing policy.

And I think the warning: Could not teleport. Could not teleport closer to destination

Actually is: Could not teleport. Could not teleport TOO closer to destination.

If you are really near the destination there's no point to TP.

Something that can help you in this cases is look for the red light beam that shows you the original Landmark Spot, just follow it.

I copied down the error message EXACTLY as I saw it on the screen.

So you're saying that if you're already within a region, and you try to use the map to go elsewhere within the region, it doesn't let you? Because it let me do it three days ago... but not anymore.

The red column is useless when you're trying to get to a particular room in a building.

The "cannot teleport closer" thing is normal, it's interesting if it was working for you in places where it shouldn't. Menu-driven teleporter devices that don't pop up a map don't actually teleport you, and instead move you around using quirks of sit animation (they set their sit targets off to the destination) or prim movement. Those will work regardless of the region settings.

Oh yeah, and if someone else sends you a teleport request, that will work differently than if you teleport on your own. Fun, huh?

I was told by the owner of one of the regions where I was having problems (which is full of buildings that are hard to navigate without TPing) that I SHOULD be able to teleport WITHIN a region that has routing set to "Landing Place." She said that if you TP into her region, any Landmark will take you to the "lobby," but another click on a specific room's Landmark should send you to the room -- and it works for her.

Is this not a correct assessment of how it's supposed to work? Is intra-region TPing really prohibited??

and it works for her.

Teleport routing gets more lax treatment if you own the land, but the differences are undocumented and change from version to version :/ If routing is not set to "anywhere", there really should be "fake" teleporters available to avoid this silliness.

Hmm. The region I'm talking about has a "map teleporter" thing where you select your destination from a list (by clicking on right and left arrows), then click on an object. When you do that, you don't actually teleport, but instead it brings up your "Map" screen with the destination pre-selected. Since teleporting via the Map doesn't work for me, this function doesn't work as well. Are you saying that -- since Teleport Routing is set to "Landing Point" in this region -- it's unlikely that it would work for ANYONE except the owners??
