I just downloaded the second life client and set up an account for the first time. When I try to run the software, the title screen comes up, but then it hangs and says not responding. I can't even click anything or try to log in. I emailed tech support about 24 hours ago but haven't heard back. I tried restarting my computer, uninstalling a reinstalling the client... still the same. I am running windows XP pro and my computer meets the system requirements.
Any advice?

nod me too, please let me know if you figure it out. I was playing day before yesterday, but since yesterday's patch i've been stuck after detecting hardware, it locks up and does n othing (5 reinstalls, and yes i pulled the temp files, all drivers updated [and rolled back in some cases] and my internet is functioning stellarly)

This is just a guess but you might need to reconfigure your anti-virus for SL again.

Also, this could be related to a personal firewall.
For instance, I use Norton Internet Security, and every time I install a new SL client, I have to okay it's use, both at install time and again at run time (because I have set it up to always prompt me for an okay before allowing a new program to access the internet).
If you have a personal firewall (note: the XP firewall allows all outbound, so that shouldn't be the issue), check your settings and rules that are inplace. You may be blocking the new SL client's access to the Internet.

I don't have a firewall or anything, so I don't think it's that. And if were a problem with connecting, wouldn't it at least allow me to attempt to connect? It freezes as soon as the program opens. I can't even click the box to input my username and password to try to log on. That's what's making me think it's a software issue with the client.
Tech support still hasn't responded....
