I tried to log on for the first time in a couple of days, and got a note that I had to install an upgrade. So I followed directions, and now, everytime I try to log on, I get the same message:

Unable to connect to server.
Userserver.agni.lindenlab.com
Please check your network connection.

My internet connection is fine, what else do they mean?

So I uninstalled the program and reinstalled if from the SL website. Didn't fix a thing.

I've only been on SL for 1.5 weeks, and I have no idea what to do!

Thanks!
Rachel

Might be the ISP blocking SL

You should get a response to a ping of lindenlabs (userserver.agni.lindenlab.com = 66.150.244.151) of anywhere from 20 to 200ms, depending on how many hops.

This is most likely a case of your ISP mistakenly blocking LL from you because the service "uses too much of your monthly bandwidth allowance" or because they appear on a blocking list as being generators of SPAM.

If you have a bandwidth allowance, it is possible to exceed your allowance (2 GB / month, say) and they will cut off LL access.

If LL is being blocked as a spam source, you have legitimate issues with your ISP.

In either case, if "Start Menu\Run" - "cmd" - "ping userserver.agni.lindenlab.com" does not get a reply, then they are being blocked.

In theory, it could be the network box if it has a built in firewall, the modem for the cable/dsl connection, the ISP you use or any of the relay ISPs in between.

Most likely, if it is a sudden change, is that your ISP is blocking them and you will beed to try another method to connect..

For an example of why these sites get blocked (usually as a knee jerk reaction) see http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2006/01/27/1321987.htm

You might also try a proxy service to see if you can connect.. such as http://www.primedius.com/

If you can, call your ISP and raise hell!

same issue
08-26-2006 07:28
I'm having the same issue, but i took it a few steps further. I physically shut off my firewall. That didn't change anything. I also tried to install from the website as the error message directed, and was then greeted with a lovely message saying there was an error with the source file.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Try rebooting the computer. Worked for me strangely enough.

Same problem here, cant log back in after logging out, my guess is the newest update (015). It is not internet related as all other surfing is ok.

this worked for me
08-27-2006 11:18
I got this and other bugs so I uninstalled and redid SL and still had the same so I uninstalled again and did a search of my HD even though I said yes to remove everything SL left files behind so I deleted them and reinstalled and now everything works fine. I'm no PC whizz but this works for most glitches I've had. Hope it helps
