Well...I do not like the no hovertips change. I tried to go into windows/documents and there was not a folder there to change anything.

I want my hovertips back and I am not the only one. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do this. Yes I have read the forums explanation...but it does not work for me. I have nothing to add this line to that is recommended.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Ha...yard sales will not be fun anymore...how on earth will people see what your selling??? Even if I change my preferences back to SHOW...others may not and they will not be able to see info on your stuff...any help here is appreciated...ty.

Hey hun! When I read the instructions, I had a bit of difficulties turning them back on as well. I liked my hovertips and I was panicking!
But believe me, the folder *does* exist, or dear, your SL wouldn't event work hehe!!
(okay this might sounds weird now because I speak french and therefor my pc is french, so I am not sure of exact word in an english Windows k!)

-Go on your desktop. Click on My Computer (or something like that)
-Click on C: Drive icon
-Click on Documents & Settings folder

Now that's where it can get a bit more complicated. In my PC, I get 3 folders there:

All Users, DEFAULT, Default User.

I found the folder we need in: DEFAULT. (If you *don't* find it in there, then try to other folders, you'll find it a some point, no choice! lol)

-Click on DEFAULT folder
-Click Application Data folder
-Click on Second Life foler
-Click on user_settings folder
-Click on setting.ini icon

Now a blocnote file should pop open.

-Add "ShowLandHoverTip TRUE" to the bottom of that
-->IMPORTANT<--
Remove the two " and use the TAB between Tip and TRUE or it won't work at all!!!
-Click File > Save
-Close that

Voila!!
That's it! Should do that while you're not running SL, or if you are you will need relog to see the HoverTips again.
Hope this was easy to understand and that it'll work out for you!!
*hugs*

Thanks! It worked perfectly for land (even on a mac). Can we do the same thing for noninteractive objects?

This works for everything, not just land. But since you have a MAC, I think it is different, so I cannot help much more. Sorry ;_;

Well, I hope there is an easier way figured sometime, because this setting.ini is not findable on my PC even with detailed searches and a lot of frustrating time.

The folder might be hidden on your computer, so you would need to have it show all folders.

There are 3 ways now - off, on just for interactive objects, and on for everything. The first 2 are in View, the third is the settings.ini change.

"To display hidden files and folders
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options
.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Notes

Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not typical items. Usually, hidden files are program or system files that should not be deleted or changed. To display other hidden files, clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box.
If you know the name of a hidden file or folder, you can search for it. For more information, click Related Topics.
If you want to see all file name extensions, clear the Hide file extensions for known file types check box. "

Works great on MAC...much easier to find the settings.ini file, but you have to use ShowAllObjectHoverTip TRUE is added to the settings.ini file (use a tab between the command and TRUE), not ShowLand command for all to be turned on.

Not sure why, but on my puter my settings.ini file is named different to what Lindens said it would be. My OS is Win XP Pro.
I found mine in.....

C:
Documents and Settings
User Name (ie: Peta)
Applications Data
Secondlife
user_settings (settings.ini)

hope this helps some members :)
