I've noticed this with every object that I've deeded to a group: once the group takes possession of the object I lose all modify rights. I can even "undeed" the object and sell it back to myself, but the ability to modify remains lost forever.
The particular object that is driving me crazy is a jukebox that I wish to use for group-owned land, so the jukebox must belong to the group. But after deeding we lose all ability to make any changes to the configuration notecards, and after reclaiming the object from the group I can't even unlink the prims so that I can remove the scripts and try to rebuild from scratch.
Does this make anyone else crazy, or is it just me? Any workarounds that anyone knows of?
Thanks, Max

Thanks, Max I noticed this a long time ago and have avoided it ever since. It definitely is high on my "this 'not a bug but a feature' sucks" list.

Deeding an object to the group goes through the same process as transfering the object to a new owner. More specifically this means that the 'Next Owner' permissions take effect when an object is deed to the group.
If you wish the group to be able to modify the object be sure that the 'Next Owner' permissions include 'Modify'. It is also important that any contents (scripts etc.) inside the object also have the correct 'Next Owner' permissions.
Claiming the object back is also a transfer from one owner to another, and thus will apply the 'Next Owner' permissions again. It is important to make sure the 'Next Owner' permissions are correct before doing this as well.
