Help With New Quad Core Pc

Hello everyone. I just purchased a new Dell XPS 410 Quad Core system and I cannot seem to get it to function properly with SL. I can log in but once in I am literally moving and rezzing at a snail's pace. I can't do anything. lol. Are there any suggestions on what I may need to do to make it run properly?

I only have a dual core but try to assign Secondlife to just one core instead of all 4. I know people have said dual core has issues with sl if your using both =) Hehe it might be Windows Vista and the drivers also. I don't really know what else to tell ya =p I built my computer not bought a prebuilt one hehe

Call me a dummy.....but how do I do that actually? And thank goodness I don't have Vista. lol. Its XP.

There is no difference between Vista and XP on a new machine with new hardware.

THe process is the same for both, right click the task bar and select task manager. Then Processes then right click "SecondLife.exe" and hen "Set Affinity". However that rpolem should have been fixed and probably wont help.

If you have not installed your own video drivers then go to the nvidia or ati website and DL the latest drivers and install them. Companies like dell install only the most basic of everything usualy.

And.. I'm ASSUMING you have a "real" video card in that machine? an on board chipset is going to flog no matter what :/

I'd add this:

CTRL+ALT+SHift+D to bring up the Debug Menu.

Under the "client" menu, under the 'Rendering' heading is "Multi-Threaded Rendering".

Select that and see if it helps. I've had issues with a Dual Core CPU till I remembered to turn that on.
