Typing turns to "jibberish" while using edit!!

A friend of mine has been having some serious issues everytime he tries to edit an object. He's talked to so many people and is getting really upset. When he goes into edit and begins the edit process his typing becomes this:

SL Resident: )*&%&#)_(!@@##
SL Resident: u975(*^^#)(___(

It ONLY happens in edit. Yes, he has reloaded SL twice. Yes, he has written help tickets. Yes, he has contacted the computer maker. He was sure this latest update would fix it but last night tried it and same thing. His only solution is to relog. A month ago everything was fine.

Any suggestions?

Don't go into edit?
Seriously though, thats the first time I have heard of that happening.. But not much surprises me lately here... Submit a ticket on Jira.. Thats about all you can do now...
