First, what brand and model of router do you have?
If you don't have one, are you running one of your computers as a router? (Or a third computer, etc.) If so, which computer is the router, and more importantly, do you just have a hub with everything plugged into it? Does running a bandwidth shaper/limiter such as NetLimiter on your computer help? _____________________

Spoken to Ryan inworld and it's looking like a bandwidth problem. He has Verizon DSL which he thinks is 256K. His brother is playing counterstrike and gets high pings.
We've tried setting bandwidth in the preferences to 125 and his brother still couldn't play. Does anyone know what bandwidth one needs to run counterstrike happily? Has anyone got any experience of running bandwidth limiting programs and could recommend one and talk Ryan though setting it up? It could be other stuff but my hunch is inadequate bandwidth. I guess that this is more critical in counter strike than SL. _____________________

Speaking from personal experience, the problems with FPSes on a shared LAN have a lot to do with packet priority, but I forget what I've actually done in the past to deal with it.

Well, after getting some sleep, I eventually did figure it out... I used a Linux box as a router and had some pretty crazy IP forwarding rules.
For limiting outgoing bandwidth on a Windows client, it's a bit more difficult. Do these help at all? http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com/screenshots.html http://www.net-peeker.com/ Failing that, a hardware solution like this thing will do it, but at $270 USD, it's insanely expensive. _____________________
