I recently upgraded my eMachines T5010 from Pentium 4 and Intel graphics media accelerator card to AMD Athlon 64x2 4400+ 2.3GHZ dual core processors on a ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard with the included NVIDIA GeForce 6150 video card.

I've noticed that many items flicker through color changes very rapidly, floors, furniture, Vendor displays etc. most everything.

Just before I logged off the other day, I did change my monitors vertical refresh rate to 85Mhz (I saw somewhere that was a good thing to do), and it seemed to help.

Anyone have any ideas?

The old system I had with the Pentium 4 and intel card didnt show objects etc. flashing colors at all. So i'm a bit confused as to what to attempt next.

Thx

It's not usually a good idea to change your monitor's refresh rate unless you are certain the rate is one the monitor can handle........you could permimately damage your monitor.

Have your updated your video card to the latest drivers? Same with your monitor especially if you are using the same monitor you had with your eMachine. Drivers for some monitors are relatively unimportant since Windows has enough generic drivers to fit most.......but not all..........monitors on the market. However some features for aligning your colors and setting the proper resolution might be missing and it's possible you need to set those to stop what you are seeing on your screen. Your video card will also have settings you can use to optimize your display. Also, as silly as it may sound, check to make sure your cable from the computer to the monitor is securely seated and tight (on both ends).

And, I would change that refresh rate back to the default as soon as possible if I were you.

look for "use vbo" in SL's graphic options

far as refresh rate, most moderen CRT monitors do 85hz no problem, if they cant they usually make a lot of noise (from a high pitch squeel to a horrible buzzing), look funny or just totally screwed up, either way you would know (and windows should be hiding what the monitor cant do anyway)

LCD monitors do not use a refresh rate and most (cheaply) made LCD's warn you not to exceed 60hz in fear of damage to the video converter inside the screen

what a refresh rate does is ...

on crt monitors (computer/TV/whatever) the electron guns start at the upper left corner and draw one row at a time left to right until it hits the last pixel on the screen at the lower right

how fast its doing this is the refresh rate ... analog NSTC TV refreshes the screen 30 times a second (or something like that) or 30hz, which is fine for video but if you pop up high res graphics the screen will litterly flicker enugh to make the whole experience nauseating (on video games they blur the image to keep this down)

computer monitors, refresh the screen 60 + times a second the higher the number the less noticeable flicker ... altho anything above 85hz is pretty much useless

this way you can stare at high res super sharp video for hours on end with less eye-brain strain of looking at a strobe light

LCD screens use a grid of individually wired pixels and in theory can draw the entire screen in one single cycle, refresh rate is just there to keep everything VGA compatible ...

if you have a direct digital connection (like in a gameboy or PSP) refresh rate does not even exist

Flashing objects

Mine just started today, had trouble logging in, and next thing i know damn near every thing is flashing, I did find how ever it only happens to objects that are set to full bright. I can solve this issue on my own land, but makes it impossible to do anything else. Video card is fine. but can say one thing, i'm getting sick of every time i log in something doesnt show right. this makes it impossible to play. If any has a real solution let me know, I will gladly take my money elsewhere.
