Be patient and wait for the client to log in.

It may take several minutes, more than 5, to connect but it eventually will.

If you know your inventory is rather full, try this, find a link to login with to a rather empty area such as Joiner or Cook, I live near these places and I have a rather full inventory. Now once you use the link to login make sure your preferences aren't set to Home locations btw, this will allow you to do two things, the first is if you login to these areas with less objects your client will have to transfer less data, second if you login to these areas your client will be focused on downloading just your inventory before the rest of the world objects. I'll fly around tonight and find a more specific locations in these areas if you are still having trouble.

Another option might be to throttle your bandwidth, higher or lower, disable streaming music temporarily, or lowering the visible object range thus requiring your computer to download less objects at login.

A final suggestion might be to go through your inventory (after you login) and clean up some older stuff you don't use as much. Good luck to you all if anyone has an emptier sim please feel free to post them so they can try.

Oh yeah to login via a link try this

Partly a BUMP, partly letting people know that I can't log on AGAIN. I have spoken to at least one other person who is having the same issue tonight at 10:30pm PST.

Would be nice if the forum had an update, no?

Thank you, I am trying it now. Still no luck. I got a different "picture" as my background, but am still stuck at "Preparing Inventory"

Update: got a message that my home area is not available, but I am being logged into a nearby location.

Jizo experiencing large amounts of broken?

I know for a fact Joiner is almost free of lag :) I have an average of 10ms ping in it with 130 FPS, all this on my laptop woohoo :) if you need better reference points try Joiner at 56,12

When you login through a link it gives you the "home area not available message".

Thanks for posting the Joiner link, it has worked well for me every time.

Uncle Linden,

Would it be possible in the next revision to give the login wait more meaning? sitting there at "Preparing Inventory" is pretty misleading, and users who don't read the forums regularly might be confused. It'd be nice if it said something like, "Entering login queue".
And if possible, every now and then give you an idea of how far into the queue you are, maybe "You are 134th in line" or something. Static unchanging displays make people think that they're frozen when that may not really be the case...

Login Message...
01-04-2005 11:05
Pedro -

There is a login message that tells you there's a delay; but it only pops on the screen AFTER you get past the "Preparing Inventory" segment. I'm guessing there's a limit to how "early" in the connection process that a message can be displayed. They'd probably have to put out another patch to change that. :-P

To All With Login Problems -

Look closely at the Progress Bar below "Preparing Inventory". If the filled-in part is "throbbing" or changing color, then the program is NOT, repeat NOT locked up!

Don't always believe Windows when it says something is "Not Responding" - that only means that the program is not being nice about "talking" to the Windows system on a regular basis; but that could be because the program is crunching a lot of numbers, or is waiting for something (like a response from the server) before it responds to Windows' requests.

Take care,
