An online friend of mine is trying to join second life. I spoke to her briefly this morning, and she told me that she had been unable to set the account up. In the way of these things, I didn't get any solid information, other than that the word 'flagged' appeared in the error message.

This sounds to me as though second life considers this a banned account. In point of fact the person concerned had never even heard of second life until I told her about it a few days ago.

If anybody has any ideas, or can suggest something she could try, I would be grateful.

The most common cause of this error message is that the person provided a date of birth that was under the age of 18, causing their registration to be flagged for review for the Teen version of Second Life.

Lee,

No, that isn't the case here - she is 40! Unless she made a mistake with her dob, but I would have thought that very unlikely. When I next speak to her I will try to find out.

Selador, same thing happened to me when I tried to create an alt a few weeks ago. I called the support 800 number, and I was told that someone under the age of 13 had, at one time, created an account from my location, and therefore, I wasn't allowed to create any more accounts. That's totally not true, no one under 13 ever created an account from here, but LL support wasn't going to budge.

I have a feeling that people are being incorrectly flagged, and LL could be losing many new accounts because of this. It needs to be looked into.

I had the same problem when I tried to create an alt. I have a static IP address and no children so I guess there is a problem somewhere.....

LOL.. I still can not create an account for the same reason.. I set out to create an account for my grand daughter to use while she was staying with us and silly me used her birthdate. Big mistake.. Now if I want to create an alt I have to go to a system with a different IP address to create the new account.. It's ok to play from my IP just not to create any new accounts..

No, it's not the same reason. We are looking at new accounts that are being set up by people over 18, which are being incorrectly flagged, if indeed that is what is happening. I do hope this can be sorted, because I have expended quite a lot of energy trying to persuade this person to join second life, and I would hate to see all that go to waste. :(

If they really are going by IP addresses then dynamic IPs and proxies must break that totally. For example loads of AOL and Freeserve users have the same IP address...

I had the same message when I tried to log on with my new verizon wireless account. The problem was that they put me on a proxy, and LL wont allow that for some reason. I took the proxy off, and I was able to log on to second life. It might be the same problem with your friend.

Ok, further to the previous postings, this is the message she has been getting:-

<<The following must be corrected before continuing: This registration has been flagged for review. Please contact support@secondlife.com for further assistance.>>

Not very informative, unfortunately. And of course, the only response to the email has been silence.

I got the same thing when my friend (Iris Garden) tried to create an account. She was trying to take advantage of the 2.95 deal but A) never saw that offered on the actual site and B) after 5 days of the 7 day free trial is still not able to log in. I want to create an alt because Kamloops is a last name now but it looks like that might be a problem.

There is no one in my house hold under 18 (hubby acts like it sometimes) never the less, he's over 21.

I have a bad feeling that the teen grid is going to prove to be a real pain in the back side. :(

Well, she has still heard nothing from the Lindens, and she still cannot open a new account.

I hate to write one of those sentences in upper case that start with the word Lindens, but:-

LINDENS - DON'T YOU CARE THAT YOU ARE LOSING CUSTOMERS BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO OPEN ACCOUNTS?

Incidentally, I understand that the problem occurs before she enters her credit card details.

Yes, Selador, that's exactly how it all was with me. Didn't get to the RL Name/CC entering stage -- just the part where I picked my avatar's name, password and my birthdate.

I never got a reply to my e-mail to support. Your friend definitely needs to call, but she's likely to hear the same thing I did.

LL, you need to do something about this.

Does calling the support phone number work?

Does calling the support phone number work?

I have read some other instances of this same problem in the forums.

Same problem - used a laptop
07-06-2005 08:32
Exactly the same issue - static IP address, no response to email, dialed in on my laptop and created the account. The user could then log in with no problems.

Seems pointless to flag/restrict the account creation if it is so easy to workaround. So just get your friend to create the account on another pc. There is no need to download the client, so it can be done almost anywhere.
