Updater crashes at start of download.

When the Second Life Updater pops up and offers to download a new version, I get:

CODE
"20292aec-c450-8ac7-e422-123e54bdd299.tmp.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

This is right at the start of the download, so I don't even know what version it's trying to bring down. I assume it's 1.6.1 though, since I was running 1.6.0 yesterday fine.

I can't get anywhere from this state. Is there a fix for it?

Dell 2.8GHz P4, 512M.

Try rebooting and/or uninstalling SecondLife and then re-installing.

Try rebooting and/or uninstalling SecondLife and then re-installing.
After reboot, same thing, just a different file:
CODE
"90302f6f-6a86-c4a3-affd-51168bebe177.tmp.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Uninstalling and reinstalling? What is this, Windoze? :-( If uninstalling and reinstalling is needed then LL needs to figure out why it's necessary, and remedy it.

I'll try a fresh install, without uninstalling old one.

OK, where's the download link for a fresh install?

All I can find is the 7-day free offer link. I don't want to start yet another account.

Click on the "Downloads" link at the top of this page.

Yep, that worked Catherine, thanks.

I never uninstall anything anymore, it seems to be a recipe for sending Windoze into a terminal spiral of decline. I guess uninstallations are just too eager and remove stuff that other parts need.

This happened to me too throughout the entire preview, and is happening in 1.6 as well.

It's just happened again, now on the new 1.6.2 download. Getting a fresh copy from the Downloads link without uninstalling the previous version bypassed the problem, as before.
