OK. SL here never had that so good FPS rate, but it was always playable. The, after the last big patch, it started crashing way too much.

When does it crash?
- in crowded places
- in graphically demanding rez areas: like too many particle systems, big building with many different textures...
- everytime i try to play in-game games, like the Lingo
- if I walk/fly enough
- when Im building (hence linking prims)

now I dont think my comp is all that bad. check the specs:

- AMD Duron 2.1
- 3 mem sticks: 256Mb each, making up for 700+Mb RAM
- NVidia GeForce FX 4000 128Mb RAM
- 1Mb DSL

(what can i say... i love MMOGs)

The drivers ARE up-to-date

Do I need a new comp for SL?
(cuz a lot of other MMO type games will run smoothly, with better FPS than SL)

well my HDD is kinda small.... I have 3Gb of free space atm, running Win2k3 Server
(PS: I tried it out with XP, crashes the same)

Try to delete your cache (Preferences/Network tab/Clear cache), it might have some corrupt data that make your client crash.

uncheck the agp box in your graphics options.

and of course do the regular stuff.... like check for spyware on your computer that might be doing something to take resources away from SL, causing it to crash.

3gb free sounds like a pointer to me , sl can use upto 1gb in its own glory thats not including the windows swap file which could get up gb itself +spyware + quicktime+whateverelse you could be just plain ol running out of virtual memory

I had this problem and it turned out to be antivirus program. Turning it off did the trick for me. Unfortuately, it took me severl days and much frustration before i figured it out. LL did fix the problem enebtually and I was able to leave it on.
