Not sure what your asking, upgrade in memory would help, but a system is only as good as its slowest component.

Add memory! You'll be glad. 256M of RAM will just barely run windows. Its a shame that manufacturers sell machines with that little RAM. Its a disservice to everyone.
There are 2 slots in your laptop. One will be empty. THe other will have a single little board with 256Meg of RAm. You can put up to 2 Gigs of memory in, by throwing away the smaller board. 1 Gig of Ram should cost about $100-125 (shop around. It takes a common type of chip, but be sure it fits your machine. ) Installing should be do it yourself easy. (Google for installation pictures.) Or use the Dell site: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9300/sm/sullivak.htm#wp999869 As for SL, you've probably got a Nvidia GO 6800 256MB Graphics Card. That's fine for SL. You'll be VERY glad you added the memory. |

yes i have the nvidia go 6800..I could have gotten more memory when i ordered the lap top but i thought 256 would be enough LOL cus I can remember when wot was it 68 was enough LOL!! I got this particular machine for sl even though the xps was suppose to be the best for gaming and the one i got was next to the best but I couldnt afford 3k on a laptop so maybe later on in the future i can when it comes down in price LOL if it does.
I don't know what kind of memory to get for the laptop but i would like to upgrade to at least 1 gig as that is about all i can afford. Also is there any better nvidia card for a laptop? IF so what is it? I know nothing much about laptops and not much more bout desktops inner workings. so any help is greatly appreicated thanks |

Sorry to say, but I haven't heard of any laptops that allow upgrading of Video Cards. It's usually built into the motherboard.
As for RAM (a.k.a. Memory) Dell should have the specs for your machine listed on their site. Most likely SO-DIMMs. You want to find out: What TYPE is it? Either DDR or DDR2 What SPEED is it? That lil' number after the PC, such as PC2700 or PC2 5200 for example. OR it will be listed as something like DDR400 or DDR2 800 for example. ====================================== AH! I just looked it up- Your Inspiron 9300 uses PC2-4200 RAM (533 Mhz). Dell has 1 GiG of RAM for it for $145. Newegg has it for: $99 to $160 depending on the Brand. |

All of the memory brands are about the same these days. What differentiates them is service. I've had good luck ordering from Memory Ten:
http://www.memoryx.net/3113748.html Lifetime warranty, tech-support, etc. And yes your laptop's graphics card can be upgraded but usually not worth it. The one you have should be perfectly fine. -peekay |
