Moved to Tech Issues.

Please provide more details of what you're experiencing, maybe another Resident can help you out. You can also contact Support with further details.

This may or may not help...

I've been experiencing something similar in a new PC i'm setting up for SL. The connection problem exists not just in SL but in Skype and and several other programs. Skype's tech support clued me on to something, and Microsoft's support pages seemed to back it up. With SL, it loads, sluggishly, then stops responding after making the connection with an invisible AV, or if it does respond, the lag is pronounced (as if the OS is translating the 32bit SL app into 64bit).

You said you are using an AMD 64.
So am I.

My specs are:
Gateway GT4022 with
XP Pro SP2
nVidia GeForce 7600 with 512Meg RAM, PCI Express
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
2.00 GB RAM
DirectX 9.0c

From what i am learning, 64bit architechture doesn't like some 32bit processes, including some ActiveX. Microsoft recommended that I check my operating system to see if it was XP 64 or XP 32. SL, Skype, and everything else i'm having issues with (including SL) are all 32 bit apps.

here is the link to Microsoft's instructions on how to determine if you are running a 32bit or 64bit version of XP:

This is a followup to my earlier response. My earlier response was posted before getting home to test which version of XP was loaded. It turned out to be the 32bit already.

In my case the problem traced to a version of McAfee that was installed by Gateway. This insideous version had it's own firewall that was obstructing SL. It not only obstructed SL, but other things as well and had a nasty habit of locking up the PC, just as the OP described.

Once i found and killed it, OMFG.... SL flew. Lag? What lag? Rezzing is almost instantaneous, movement is fluid.... SL is running like it did back around version 1.6; fast, smooth, & beautiful.

The Athlon 64 absolutely loves the 32bit version of XP Pro SP2.
