Try adding -noprobe at the end of secondlife.exe in your shortcut and post your results please.

Id suggest going into Preferences from the SL splash screen. In the General Tab check the box to Auto-Detect GraphicsHardware on Next Start up. Then restart SL. This may work for you.

Also while in the preferences go to the Network Tab and click Clear Cache before the restart.

Driver Cleaner...
04-10-2006 10:16
I had this one happen to me a month or two ago after a driver upgrade. I talked to Support about it, and their suggestion was to use Driver Cleaner Pro (www.drivercleaner.net) to COMPLETELY remove all video drivers, and then reinstall them. That solved the problem; SL worked again afterwards.

Mine does this everytime I log on. I have cleaned old drivers and updated them and reinstall SL and it still says it. I just ignore it and move on.

nice to see im not alone with this , i have contacted support and am waiting for a reply, i will ignore it and move on but im worried that it will affect my game in some way.

i find it very strange that it is asking for catalyst 3.8 which is an old driver from 2003

if it is asking for an old driver and detecting if i have that maybe it doesnt detect i have the latest because its not told to look for 6.3 which i have from ati.

It kept happening to me too... whether I used Omega or stock. I think it has something to do with the fact that after a certain point, the version on ATI drivers report as '0#.#' instead of just '#.#'

Seems like it'd be a REALLY easy bug to fix, but, eh.

from what I heard ATI stopped supporting some older cards with their drivers. Try rolling back to a 5.x based Omega Driver and see if that works.

My guess is the story goes something like... 'The current driver for ATI in 2003 (when SL went public?) was 3.8, and as they added shininess, features, and bugs, they never bothered removing the part about searching for a driver at least 3.8. Then ATI changed the way they send out their info, and *boom* everyone with new drivers get old drivers reported, and since that part of the SL client hasn't gotten upgraded since its creation, that's what it's telling you to 'upgrade' to. But SL staff doesn't care enough to do anything about it.' :)
