Could be that your computer isn't fast enough, or you graphics card can't take it? Check the system requirements, and make sure your computer is up to it. Also, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Second Life. This sometimes does the trick.

That could also be an indication that you have crashed. Try typing something in open chat.........if it fails to show up then chances are very strong that you have crashed. If it shows then you are still in the world and something else is causing your problems.......most likely heavy lag.

If you are crashed it is likely that your system is struggling with the client program. Check your video drivers for the latest versions.

SL is currently suffering from a problem which makes people tend to 'freeze'. I get it a little; someone close to me can hardly function in sl because they are constantly freezing.

It seems to be part of the multitude of malfunctions that are going on at the moment.

.

also ...

basically SL is not a very stable environment about 20% of the time ...

there are a lot of little techie things that can go wrong on SL,
that have little to do with ones pewter ...

it will take a while to get used to what those little SL problems are

to be safer, your comp should be at least 1gig of memory
and a recent GForce 512mb video card tho, 256 is only adequate.

and lastly, it seems people who have the new Vista tend to have
more comp and SL problems than with XP ...

tho a lot of people dont think so, and wont agree ...
part of The Game (as most people like to it),
is to learn how to deal with and overcome problems on Second Life,
and get over it!

Current Bug info?

I think Ill go with Selador and say that Im affected (rather sevealely) by one of the current and widespread "problems" with SL (and not that I fall short on any of the system requirments, I have a dell inspiron e1505)...Is there a location where these problems are ducumented, along with the progress toward their fixe3s and the potential timeframes involved?...

10-03-2007 10:10
As of october 3 (with the new downloadable version of sl - 1.18.3(5) ) I still cant move (forward or backwards-after right cvlicking an object - to sit etc.)...It is my hope that someone working on solving this problem will read this...I am also interested in when the next updated version will be comming out. (if anyone knows, please drop me a line)...

After right clicking on anything or opening the communication box (even your camera arrows) the focus is not on the main window where your avi is. Try left clicking on the ground to get the focus back. That may be helpful.

The symptoms you describe are indicative of a poor network connection between the client and simulator

Ive tried left clicking just in front of me (many times) with no effect...when I first start the sim I have network activity with pakets in and out - after everthings loaded, all fields under network drop to zero...my network connection seems to work fine for everything else (I have roadrunner highspeed cable and average about 3.2 gb down - when I run a speed test...

Have you tried different simulators?

Diff Simulators?
10-04-2007 07:41
I think Im unsure what you mean. do youu mean older versions of the SL simulator (like older than the version released on Sep28 as 1.18.3)??...I believe I had the problem befor the release of the sep28 version, but Ive allways gone to the same place to download, and I think its allways been the most recent...Im unsure where to go to pick and download an older version...

You just sparked my memory on a problem I had a few weeks ago (maybe a couple months ago). I have Roadrunner cable too (at just under 6 mps........you sure that's gb? LOL). Everything except SL seemed to work just fine for me.......email, surfing, even watching old episodes of "Pirate Master" on CBS.com. SL was irrattic and often stopped dead cold after doing something as simple as walking. Then one day I happened to notice that my email was taking a second or two longer to download my usual amount of email........not readily noticable but for some reason it caught my attention. I went to roadrunner web site to check my email there to compare.......it, too was slower. So, I decided to reboot my cable modem and router (unplug both for about a minute or two then plug back in). That fixed the email and web surfing stuff for me. So I went on SL and guess what? All problems resolved. :)

Give that a shot.

I just mean like, logging in into a different region. In Preferences > General you can check 'Show start location on Login screen' and try a different region (to just throw one out there, Hyperborea :P) The reason I suggest that is, recently there was a bad physics situation being temp-rezzed on a timer in a region where I rent, and I noticed how it would completely stop sending network traffic while it chugged away on the physics.

Ive also noticed (after a few moments after startup) that "packets in" and "packets out" are 0...this doesnt seem right because the whole sceen is often not loaded...my bandwith starts at around 60kbps (which seems very low for a high speed conection) and then drops to 0 after a few second and then I cant move...
