I have a super charged system with a Geforce 8800 dual core, 2gig etc etc runs like lightning on everything but in SL. I normally enjoy about 80 fps but once about every 5 to 15 min my frame rate drops to 1 fps then takes about 1 or 2 min to regain itself obviously rendering the game unplayalbe. Are there any settings in either SL or Vista I should consider to fix this? I cannot figure out what is wrong. This never happens with my 3 year old setup.

Looks like setting affinity to 1 cpu has fixed 80% of the problem.

Vista isn't the greatest to run with SL. Because driver support isn't 100% perfect, etc...

I have Vista/8800GTS and I'm getting fed up with the performance (not just with SL but other games too), so I will be switching back to XP. I'll come back to Vista when nVidia gets the drivers right.

After about 5 weeks on Vista I gave up and switched back to XP.
Too many issues to make it worth while.

Yeah, Vista's eye candy is awesome... but it's just a hassle!

I switched back to XP yesterday (set up a dual-boot, actually) and it's a major difference in SL. I was getting ~14-20fps with Vista, now I'm back to 30-50fps in most areas.

Without proper drivers Vista is nothing more than a pretty toy for now, or rather a Microsoft version of Linux since it supports a minimum set of software right now. And by that I mean the software support, not Vista is Linux.

Also ATI is supposed to be addressing SL running on Vista in upcoming drivers (not 7.2). I'm not sure what nVidia's plans are.
