Missing prims in popular stores

When I go into a store that has those palettes of hair colors on the wall under all the styles, I don't see all that I should. Hair sellers tend to have hair colors or groups of hair colors on individual prims, and my client seems to not display them all.

If I stand in the front of the store I see most of the hair colors for the styles at the front of the store, but the ones in the back of the store are either missing prims for some of the colors or have no colors at all. The larger prims with the picture of the styles are there, but the smaller prims with the individual colors, from which you buy things, are not.

The solution is to fly far away and come back, and quickly go to the back of the store. I get a different incomplete set.

I have 256M on my nVidia 7600GS, and I've selected 256M in preferences. I don't think it's a texture problem, though, since I don't see even a blank grey prim, and the hair color textures tend to be duplicated throughout the store. This seems to be a maximum number of prims problem.

It's not remote places, either. It's all the big single-vendor island stores. I'm in ETD now and see only perhaps 2/3 of the prims I should.

Here's what ETD looks like

Set draw distance to 64.
If that doesnt work, clear cache and try.
If that doesnt' work, report back for more tips. ;)

More information...

When things are working as they should, small prims in the distance don't draw. So, in a store with small prims surrounding a large prim (as, say, hair vendors), the small prims from which you buy individual colors don't show in the distance, but they do show nearby. As you move closer, the smaller prims should show.

Sometimes, though, you can walk right up to a display and the smaller prims are still missing.

I've never heard anyone else mention it, and when I've IM'd sellers they are surprised to hear this. I sent one seller pictures of her display with boxes missing from the shelves, as if she was only selling one of each color. For her, the display was full.
