I just tried to log in several times over the past 30 minutes and can't get past the "Waiting for response..." point. I checked and re-checked my firewall and made sure nothing is hindering the connection, so my guess is either the server/grid has gone down, or something between myself and SL itself is down.
Anyone else having issues with this?

It just now tells me to report the problem with a dialogue that states:
"Unable to connect to Second Life. Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong. Please go to the Support section of the SecondLife.com web site and report the problem. If possible, include your SecondLife.log file from: C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Application Data\SecondLife\logs Thank you." .. my file'd be in E:\yadda-yadda, but whatever. I still ask, anyone else having this issue? I mean, before I report it, I wanna make sure it's not something goofing up on my end. ~Myia |

That's a standard message built into the client, presumably when it can't connect, not sure.

I'm having the same problem. I was teleporting to Uli (trying out the Discovery Hunt even though I can't get the prizes
 ) and it never completed. Got totally stuck and tried to relog. Now I'm looking at "Waiting for response" or just a frozen login screen. I tried setting my login location to home (still the WA for me), but that didn't work either. I've made no changes to my firewall or computer setup in a long time, so I don't think that's it. I can still see the user and login servers, too, using ping and tracert._____________________

I've got it too, I figure it must be something server side, since I logged on fine an hour ago, and now I can't log on, and nothing has changed since then.
So I guess you're just going to have to report it to support (me too actually) and wait till they fix whatever the problem is. _____________________

Same problem here. I also relogged due to extreme lag and now can't get back in. The first 3 tries I got knocked back to the login screen after waiting up to 5 minutes per try. Then I got the "despite our best efforts" garbage. Now, at try 6, I'm still getting knocked back out to the login screen.
And, BTW, this extreme lag? Only since 1.6. Sure it's fixed. Yeah, and I have some nice waterfront property I'd like to sell to the Lindens.  _____________________

1.6.1 DID fix some stuff, including a bit of the lag that 1.6 introduced, so I am a bit more happy with this update. Something you folks might wanna bear in mind, too, is that this is something that hasn't been done before, by anyone. The Lindens're doing what they can with what they're making without help from anyone else, because this is as-yet unexplored territory, so to speak.
Personally, I'm considering Second Life in its "beta" stages until it gets to v2.0. I get the feeling that, by then, they'll have this sorta stuff under their thumb.  |
