Hmmm, you have the latest drivers for video, motherboard, directx etc so I am stumped. One thing to try is to set XP to strictly english and see if that affects anything. Is your machine able to run other programs ok? Can you run Doom3 Demo at all? I have had this happen when SL itself is corrupted, a driver of some sort is messed up or if I misstype something when I make my shortcuts.

I suspect it may be your power supply since the 6600GT is a power hog and if your PS isn't putting out at least 300watts(350w or better is what I recommend) of true power then when you start up a graphics heavy program like SL it pukes. Then again you may simply have a bad card. You have updated your mobo bios to the latest?
