SL hangs after about a minute . . . why?

Hi All,

I have a new PC at work. Since I do 3D CAD I needed a powerfull one so I ordered an HP Workstation xw4400 with an nVidia QuadroFX1500 dual-screen graphics card and 4GB RAM.

At first I couldn't log in at all. SL wants to send a crash report a few seconds after I double clicked it's icon.

After upgrading the driver (to one recommended by AutoDesk) I can now login and it goes smooooooooooth beyond anything I've EVER seen, but only for a minute or so :( . After that, SL hangs. Can't move, can't talk (not that anyone can hear anyway), can't tp and if I was flying at the time of the hang, I just keep going and going in the same direction, eventually sinking into the ground or sea.

I read in the SL sysreq's that nVidia cards that report as Quadro aren't tested and therefore their behaviour is unpredictable. But I mean, this is a 300€ graphics card, how can that be the problem? For the rest I have killer specs, right? Dual core 2.4GHz with 4GB RAM ...

Any suggestions?

Best regards,
Maja

Are you running SL on the first monitor or the second monitor?

Try turning off object occlusion.

Try a different sim.

It sounds like you are getting disconnected. Maybe you have a firewall issue.

Are you on wired or wireless? If wireless, try wired, if possible.

I'm not sure, but I'll check next time and try both monitors

Try turning off object occlusion.

I've browsed through the preferences at the login screen but can't find anything called "object occlusion".Can you tell me where to find it, please?

Well, I opened the ports on our firewall the knowledge base told about (without doing that I couldn't even get past the handshake)

Wired. I'm allergic to wireless ;)

Million thanks for your hints so far. I hope I can get this up and running.
