SL is causing my computer to power down. It just turns off while running SL... wtf? I watched an entire movie without a problem, then started up SL and BOOM! It powered down. And by that I mean the box just turns itself off, and the only way to get it back on is to unplug it and plug it back in... the on button doesnt work...wtf? Just wondering if anyone can help/has had the same thing happen to them.
PS httpwww.ahsonline.com.aulemondrive has a movie I made using SL!!!

Not while playing SL, but back when I played Everquest all the time, I had that happen alot when running EQ. It happened more and more often, then one day it wouldn't come back at all. It was the power supply that died. "While playing EQ" may have been just coincidence though, since I was playing EQ ALL the time.

Is the CPU or power supply overheating? Are all the fans turning properly? Are any of the vents blocked?

In al honesty it sounds like your PS isn't providing the wattage nessesary. SL pretty much shoves all the sliders to "11", and so brings the small defects to the surface. Make use of the warranty and have the PS checked and replaced if need be.

Yeah, I'd also bet on Powersupply, a short powersupply will often show up problems during games.

From: Jaden Angelus I have a new one! Its 3hzs damn it! 3hz? Wow, even I can do more than 3 processes per second Okay, but seriously... I've been having a similar problem. I've noticed mine only seems to be on a major hard drive access, and the crashing occurs intermittantly, at that. It's not the CPU, or SL would be crashing it regularly. It's not the vid card (new) or memory (tested each simm) My next test will be power supply swap. Power supplies are probably the easiest thing in a computer to have a failure...

The power supply may be experiencing problems... some sort of limiting problems.
SL consumes alot of processing power. Most modern processors regulate consumption based on the amount of load they have, so prolly running SL actually can trigger a power switch-off.
Might explain why buttoning on doesn't work without unplugging / reinserting the power cord.

I had something much like this problem a month or two ago. It was fixed by getting a new power supply =)
Your video/CPU draw more power when they're used more. If there is a power problem, the power supply shuts off rather than letting something get damaged.

This may be irrelevant now, but my comp also used to reboot or shut off intermittently when playing SL. I also had this issue whenever I tried to start Jedi Academy single-player mode. After I replaced my motherboard, everything worked fine.
Just another avenue to consider in case the new PS doesn't fix things.
